Hi, our down syndrome son, Jason,  is 32 years old.  He is the most sweetest thing!  We (my husband and I) don't know what we would do without him.  One of the good things that comes from having a "handicapped" child is you sure don't get in a rut or a routine!  He is not "handicapped" to us, he's as important and valued to us as anybody.  He touches your heart in ways you can't even imagine.
Ok, enough of the mushy although it's the truth and my feelings exactly!
Here's what I have learned over the years and it's a valuable lesson.  My son is not handicapped in caring and being alert to other people's feelings.  The most intelligent, educated  person can be "handicapped" in those areas so the lesson is each person is handicapped in some way.  My son is without guile.  He is who he is.  He's not pretentious.  One of the piece of his personality that is such a sweet thing, he never gets mad.  Well, hardly ever.  He's cheerful and doesn't want to hurt anybody.
I remember one of the sweetest couple in the world had a down syndrome son.  The father told me their son would not let them clean up the table and dishes after supper, he would do it for them.  That touched my heart.
Another lesson I've pondered, when you have a down syndrome child it's not that God gave him to you because you are such a special person.  It's the other way around, the CHILD turns you into a good parent because you understand the things you thought were so important fall by the wayside of life.  The plans you have for your children have to be abandoned and you realize they weren't the best anyway.  Each person has a plan for their life.  My son's plan is doing exactly what he's doing. That is the most important thing.

This blog will be about our interacting with him on a daily basis.  Hope you enjoy our journey.
Today, we are all getting over a cold.  I'm glad Jason is feeling better today.  He's coughing but doesn't have to have medicine.  Today he's been eating and watching movies on his ipad.   Right now, his nephew is over here and they are playing a game on the wii together.

That's it for this week.  thanks for reading.
